A picnic bench has been stolen from a playground in West Row only three months after volunteers donated their time to refurbish it.

The wooden picnic bench was made by a trustee of the playground in Beeches Road as part of the refurbishment which was fund-raised largely by the local community.

Trustee, Sue Peachey, said: “You just can’t believe people would stoop so low - it’s frustration and disappointment.

“It’s been well used the children really enjoy it - it’s just a shame somebody would do such a thing.”

The picnic bench, which Mrs Peachey said had been bolted to a concrete base was stolen between July 18 and 20.

Volunteers gave their time over eight weeks to strip out equipment from the playground and replace it, earlier this year.

The refurbishment was the result of three years of fund-raising and was celebrated by the local community during the grand opening in April.
