A group of hospital staff have issued a challenge to the fittest fund raisers to back our Beat-It! appeal.

They have launched a 10k in 10 days challenge to aid the campaign to buy a state-of-the-art prostate cancer probe for West Suffolk Hospital.

The idea is to run or walk 10k, about six miles, every day for 10 consecutive days between Thursday December 5 and Saturday December 14, alone, in pairs or in small groups.

Helen Kroon, senior HR advisor, came up with the idea with colleagues Kerry Robinson and Rebecca Rutterford.

Helen said: “We wanted a challenge to encourage people to support our fundraising. But, equally important, we want to get the West Suffolk public thinking about healthy living.

“Most people think about getting fit in the New Year, but this is a great chance to get a head-start so you can get into that all-important party dress or not worry so much about what you eat and drink over the festive period.”

The challenge is open to all with participants paying a £10 entry fee, and then carrying out individual or group fundraising.

They will then be sent a registration pack, which will include a specially-devised training programme, whether you plan to walk or run the distances.

Helen added: “You can run for all 10 days or walk each 10k, or you can do a bit of both. For those who would prefer, you can use the treadmill or cross-trainer at your gym.

Send a £10 cheque payable to West Suffolk Hospital to Fundraising Department, West Suffolk Hospital, Hardwick Lane, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 2QZ.
