More than 300 visitors flocked to Barnham Village fete on Sunday – beating last year’s impressive turn-out.
BBC Look East weather presenter Alex Dolan was the special guest at the climate-themed fete, called Come Rain or Shine.
The popular presenter, who has recently branched out into outside broadcasting, addressed a ‘record crowd’ and picked winners for the fete’s two competitions.
Elizabeth Holland, one of the organisers, said: “It was a tremendous day. We had a record crowd, better coverage than ever, and fantastic arena events.”
Villagers were treated to a performance by the Silver Twist majorettes, a dog obedience display and a dance show from local exercise troupe Zumbalulu.
Visitors enjoyed inflatables, a raffle, a silent auction and a gourmet barbecue in the weekend sunshine.
Two youngsters from Barnham won the ‘best dressed for the weather’ competition and a black pug was the dog Alex Dolan was ‘most likely to take home’.
Elizabeth credited the fete’s success to community involvement. “Over 300 people came – in a small village, that’s a fabulous amount,” she said.
“Such substantial interest reflects the village’s distinctive community bond.”
