We are seeing less of our editor Barry Peters lately.
It is all down to his willpower in sticking to his sponsored slim in aid of the Bury Free Press’ Beat-It! appeal to raise £55,000 for a prostate probe for West Suffolk Hospital.
At the beginning of our appeal in February Barry pledged to give £2 for every pound in weight lost and asked people to sponsor him for a pound-a-pound.
As well as resisting all the cakes colleagues have bought on their birthdays since then, he has been supported in an exercise regime by Abbeycroft Leisure at Bury Leisure Centre.
So the bad news for those who did not put a limit on their sponsorship pound-a-pound is they now owe Beat-It! £56.
Barry’s weight has dropped from 21st 3lb to 17st as he has lost 10 per cent of his body fat.
Barry boasted: “My waist is down from 133cm to 117cm — I’ve gone down four trouser sizes. My blood pressure was referred to my GP initially, because it was so high, but now it’s within normal levels.”
It has not just made him look a lot better. “I feel so much better,” he said. “If anyone is thinking of losing weight I would wholeheartedly recommend giving it a go.
“To motivate themselves, they can always get sponsored for Beat-It!”
If you are using exercise as part of your fitness regime, why not join either the 10 or 20 miles sponsored cycle rides through King’s Forest organised by St Edmunds Wheel on Sunday October 13. If you enter online at www,stedmundswheel.org.uk or by calling 01284 761837, you only need to raise a minimum of £20 sponsorship. On the day, you need another £5 which will be split between Beat-It! and West Suffolk Hospital’s breast cancer unit.
