Ben Barker ended his Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland campaign in battling fashion.
Buoyed by the pace he had shown at the penultimate round of the series a few weeks ago, the former West Suffolk College student returned to Hockenheim with optimism.
Starting ninth for race one later that afternoon, Barker set about picking up places, taking advantage of a first lap scramble before movinginto fourth position.
He set about closing the gap to the podium places, but the chequered flag dropped before he could drive into the top three.
He entered Sunday’s season finale with high hopes but despite setting the second fastest lap of the race Barker remained seventh to the end. But he was judged to have jumped the start so the penalty demoted Barker to ninth.
While dropping a couple of spots in the final result did not have championship implications for Barker, it was a disappointing end to his first foray into the German domestic series.
