An attempted fuel theft has been thwarted after the would-be victim disturbed potential thieves at work.

Police have said the victim went to start an irrigation system in Station Road at about 10pm on May 2 and saw a man running away from the pump.

The man got into a silver Peugeot 406 and drove away at speed towards Lakenheath village.

A second man was in the car, which is believed to have had a registration beginning KN02.

On inspection the victim found that the padlock on the lid of the system had been cut off, the filter cap removed and a hole made in the filter to gain access to the diesel, however nothing is believed to have been stolen.
