A TALENTED artist from Bury St Edmunds has made the shortlist of a national drawing competition.
Ash Summers, 23, will travel to London on September 13 for the final judging of the prestigious Jerwood drawing prize.
His work will be displayed at the Jerwood Space gallery in London from September 14.
The drawing Ash has entered, called Tree (Catocala), portrays a tree adorned with the patterns of a Catocala moth.
Ash, who has just finished a degree in fine art at Falmouth University, is one of 60 shortlisted for the prize out of more than 3,000 entrants.
He said: “I almost felt sick with excitement when I saw I had been shortlisted.
“I came across the competition through one of my tutors at university.
“I haven’t had much of my work displayed before, only fairly small galleries with my university course, so this is my first major break.
“It will be really amazing to see my work in the gallery.
“I got the drawing framed in St Ives at a really professional place so it was very exciting just to see it framed like that.
“I am looking forward to seeing it hanging on a wall. I want to be an artist, I am mostly interested in drawing but would one day like to move into painting and animation.” You can see more of Ash’s work at www.ashsummers.carbonmade.com
