AN ART exhibition and auction has raised more than £13,000 for a drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity in Bury St Edmunds.

Art For Addicts Sake was held at The Gallery in Soho, central London, on November 4 to raise money for Focus12, in Risbygate Street, which needs around £200,000 each year.

It was attended by more than 150 people, including the charity’s patrons Boy George and Davina McCall, and several other celebrity supporters, including Sadie Frost and EastEnders star George Layton.

Chip Somers, chief executive of Focus12, said: “The event was a great success and a reminder of how many supporters we have who are willing us to survive in these very challenging times, when literally every penny counts.

“We’re fortunate enough to have incredibly generous patrons who always support us, but there is no escaping the fact that times are hard and it remains a difficult time to be a drug and alcohol rehab.”

The donated art, auctioned at the end of the night, ranged from modern abstracts to 200-year-old Chinese water colours, with lot prices ranging from £20 for a small print to £1,000 for a photograph of the World Trade Centre.
