ARMED police surrounded a house in Bury St Edmunds, on Friday after receiving reports that a man had been seen with a gun.

Oakes Road was closed to the public after a member of the public reported seeing a man driving in the area with what appeared to be a gun.

A 29-year-old man was later arrested and charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear, possession of a class B drug and production of a class B drug.

Michael Scully, of Oakes Road, appeared at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Monday when he pleaded guilty to possession of a class B drug and production of a class B drug.

He has been sent to crown court to be sentenced for the two offences.

Scully will next appear at Ipswich Crown Court on August 30 to enter a plea to the charge of being in possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear.

No application for bail was made by Scully’s solicitor.
