Forensic evidence that linked Patrick Burke to a burglary resulted in him being jailed for seven break ins.
Burke, 24, who was formerly of Bury St Edmunds but has been on remand at Norwich Prison, was jailed for three years at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.
Robert Sadd, prosecuting, said Burke had burgled three properties in south Essex before stealing jewellery, computer equipment and cash from three properties in Wickhambrook and one in Haverhill.
Mr Sadd said that in each case Burke smashed open a door or window before ransacking rooms to find items to easily turn into cash to help fund his drug addiction.
The court heard Burke had been in court 24 times for 44 offences and had served two prison sentences.
Christopher Martin, mitigating, told the court: “Mr Burke recognises that he has an unenviable record of offending.”
He said Burke was ‘desperate’ to stop using drugs.
Judge David Goodin told Burke he had damaged homes and added: “It would be devastating for the householder when they returned.”
