A CONSULTANT in critical care medicine at West Suffolk Hospital has been shortlisted for a prestigious national leadership accolade.
Dr Jon Cardy is one of four finalists in the clinical leader of the year category in the BMJ Group Improving Health Awards 2012.
He was nominated by one of the hospital’s junior doctors after driving through improvements in the A&E department and helping it meet national quality targets.
Dr Cardy was appointed as director of A&E services in February 2011. Under his leadership, performance against the target for seeing, treating and discharging patients within four hours improved, with the hospital ranked as best in the country during the first quarter of 2011/12.
