The A14 at Higham has been closed and diversion put in place following a three car crash this morning.
Emergency services were called to the crash on the Westbound carriageway shortly before 8.15am.
It involved a blue Nissan Almeria, a white Volkswagen Polo and a silver Volkswagen Touran.
A Suffolk Fire services spokesman said two crews from Newmarket and one from Burwell in Cambridgeshire, arrived to find four adults and two children trapped in the vehicles.
Firecrews helped free two casualties from two of the vehicles and had to cut the roof off of one of them.
It took an hour and a half after the accident happened for firefighters to get everybody safely out of the cars.
A Suffolk Police spokesman said no details of the severity of the injuries was available.
