Baton twirlers in Bury St Edmunds are dizzy with joy after qualifying to represent their country in an international competition.
Hannah Long, 16, and Sophie Maddock, 14, who are both members of the Bury Starlets, will represent England at the World Baton Twirling Federation Twirling Championships and 4th International Cup, in Limerick, Ireland, between August 2 and 10.

The pair qualified after taking part in selections in February.

Hannah and Sophie also competed with five other members of the Bury Starlets – Naomi Landenberger, 15, Amy Maddock, 11, Alice Loman, 11, Ryaan Rogers, eight, and Ysabella Power, four – at the British Baton Twirling Sports Association Nationals.

The three-day event, in Portsmouth, at the weekend, saw four members reaching finals.

Karen Long, troupe leader, said: "I am just so proud of all of the girls who competed as they did extremely well.

"Everyone has worked hard and we are looking forward to future competitions."

In the Dance Twirl Senior One Novice category, Naomi Landenberger took sixth place and Hannah Long took eighth place.

In the Fancy Strut Juvenile Two Beginner category, Alice Loman won seventh place.

Naomi Landenberger took 11th place in the Poise and Personality Senior One category and fifth place in the Two Baton Senior One Novice.
