A former RAF Honington squadron leader, who served 11 years of a prison sentence after being convicted of killing his wife, is continuing his fight to clear his name.
Nicholas Tucker, 58, who now lives with his partner Jenny Peacock in Thetford, was released from prison last year on licence, following a conviction in December 1997, for the murder of his 52-year-old wife, Carol Tucker.

Campbell Malone, Mr Tucker's solicitor, said: "Mr Tucker has been consistent in his actions to clear his name and he has had a number of appeals turned down.

"Mr Tucker was subject to a life sentence but has been released on licence and he is trying to get on with things.

"He has been determined and consistent in his efforts to clear his name. The case has been with the Criminal Cases Review Commission for a very long time and they are coming towards the end of their processes.

"The case has taken an unusually long time and it is a complex matter.

"Everybody involved in the case has found it tremendously stressful and we are hoping that we will get a positive decision in the near future."

Carol Tucker died on July 21, 1995, after her Ford Fiesta car, which was being driven by Tucker, came off the A1101 and plunged into the River Lark at Lackford.

Tucker claimed he had swerved off the road to avoid a deer, but the prosecution argued Tucker had deliberately driven off the bridge and drowned his wife.

Tucker's case was featured on the BBC programme Rough Justice and family and friends set up the Friends of Nick Tucker group to inform the public of his appeals.

They described his case as 'one of the most tragic miscarriages of justice in recent times'.

During the three-and-a-half week long trial, the court heard how Tucker had become infatuated with Serbian interpreter Dijana Dudokovic when he was a military observer in Yugoslavia.

Home Office forensic pathologist Dr David Harrison said evidence pointed to pressure being put on Mrs Tucker's neck at the time of her death.

Jailing Tucker, Mr Justice William Gage, told him: "You have been convicted of the murder of your wife. You faked a car accident and then extracted your wife from the car and drowned her.

"You feigned unconsciousness and pretended you did not know what happened to your wife.

"This was a planned, callous and calculating act."
