Conservatives in South West Norfolk last night confirmed that Elizabeth Truss will be their candidate, after a turbulent few weeks.
At a special general meeting, the ‘Cameron A-lister’ had her seat in the constituency confirmed when a motion for her deselection was rejected by 132 votes to 37.

The 90-minute meeting at Swaffham’s Assembly Rooms was attended by 170 people and chaired by Conservative frontbencher Lord Taylor of Holbeach.

The meeting followed controversy over whether or not the local party had been informed that the married mother-of-two had previously had an affair with Conservative MP Mark Field in 2004-05.
