Protesters will be taking to the roads in Horringer tomorrow to demonstrate their anger at the proposed closure of the village post office.
The Horringer Our Post Pffice is Essential To Us (Hope) rally is aiming to highlight the unsuitablilty of public transport and parking facilities at the Horringer Court estate post office, which is being offered as an alternative by Post Office Ltd, which is aiming to close seven sub post offices in West Suffolk, including Horringer and Fornham All Saints.

On Friday, 150 people turned out to a meeting called by the parish council over the Horringer closure, at which residents were urged to protest at the plans.

The council says the existing facility is within easy walking distance for residents, has easy, free and ample car parking and is very well used by more than 500 people each week.

Councillors have timed the alternative journey people would need to make to get to the Horringer Court branch and says it would take customers two hours there and back.

Peta Cook, chairman of Horringer-cum-Ickworth Parish Council, said: "Our village wants, uses and needs our post office, not just for the functional services it provides but also as a social meeting place, part of what makes up village life.

"What is happening to this country when the very fabric and heart of village life is being ripped out?"

The rally will start at 10am at Horringer Community Centre car park and a convoy will travel to Horringer Court estate post office.
