It was hugs all round Bury St Edmunds at the weekend, when volunteers took to the streets to embrace passers by in aid of charity.
On Saturday, volunteers from St Nicholas' Hospice, in Bury, were out in force on Cornhill, from 10am until 3pm, hugging passers by in exchange for a donation.

A total of £425.95 was raised.

Jenny Baskett, a St Nicholas' Hospice volunteer, said: "It wasn't just about raising money, it was also about hugging people who don't usually have anyone to hug and making them feel better.

"Everyone really enjoyed themselves and all the volunteers have signed up to do another event in the future – one volunteer even got a marriage proposal."
