A village women's institute which has weathered the years was sitting pretty this week when members celebrated 85 years of an organisation which has been a stalwart of local life.
Woolpit WI was 85 years old this week and members celebrated with a two-course dinner at the Woolpit Institute, attended by past and present members.

Among those present who have been members for many years was Grace Baker, Brenda Trencher and Judy Walker.

A birthday cake was made by Margaret Rooney and Jennifer Baker and several of the 47 women attending turned up in home-made Easter bonnets.

There was music from John Tomlinson and Chris Brooks created a programme for the evening on computer using images of the village.

Margaret Wiggins, current president, pictured here with former presidents, joined when she moved to Woolpit 10 years ago. "We moved here looking towards retirement. There is such a complete social life here, there is so much to do."

She said the village group enjoyed a wide variety of interests with members visiting the Alan Titchmarsh show, in London. Members had also been gliding at Rattlesden airfield a couple of years ago.
