The Beating Retreat ceremony kicked off the Bury St Edmunds Festival with military precision last Friday.
The Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment performed tunes including the Dambusters March, Battle of Britain March and the National Anthem.

Hundreds of people who gathered on Angel Hill for the performance were also treated to a fly-past by an RAF search and rescue helicopter.

The Abbey Gardens then hosted junk funk band Weapons of Sound, along with 150 local school pupils.

Nick Wells, Festival manager, said: "The Beating Retreat is a great tradition and always proves to be popular."
