A survey has revealed that the majority of homes in Petch Close, Bury St Edmunds, have only suffered mild damage after settlement in the area.
Havebury Housing Association arranged for the survey after residents reported imploding windows, cracked walls and subsidence.
It revealed only one of the 21 homes had major structural damage, while the others had minor or hairline cracks, which could be treated as part of normal decoration. Floor level checks also showed the properties experienced very little sloping.
Havebury is now due to meet the surveyor to discuss the report in detail.
In a newsletter regarding Petch Close, Havebury said: "The report is excellent news as it confirms the position that your homes are safe, but there is still the issue of settlement on the site, which needs to be addressed. These results will be looked at to get a clear overall picture."
Earlier this year, St Edmundsbury Borough Council agreed to pay £199,000 compensation to Havebury because it failed to declare the defects when it transferred the properties in 2002.
Initial proposals to redevelop the site were due to be looked at yesterday, with further public consultation later this year.
