A petrol station attendant has told how he was robbed at gunpoint in a late night raid at the weekend.
The Tollgate Service Station, in Tollgate Lane, Bury St Edmunds, was targeted at around 10.30pm on Saturday.

Attendant Matthew Coussell, 24, said: "I came out from out the back and there was a man standing with his back to the counter.

"I asked if he was alright and he turned around and stuck something in my face and told me to open the till – it looked like a gun, I couldn't tell.

"I just opened the till and stood back and let him do what he was going to do.

"He asked for the money, so I gave it to him, I wasn't going to get in his way."

As the robber fled, Mr Coussell pushed the panic alarm, phoned the police and then locked the shop. It had been due to close half an hour later.

Unshaken, Mr Coussell was back behind the till on Tuesday afternoon.

"My colleagues are a bit shocked and have been asking me if I'm alright.

"It is the first time anything like this has happened to me, but I haven't thought about what happened much at all."

A 16-year-old youth from Bury has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. He has been released on police bail to return to Bury Police Station on October 8.

Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact Det Con Lisa Hunt at Bury CID on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
