Hundreds of people flocked to the unveiling of a statue of an iconic Dad's Army character as part of a celebration of the TV sitcom in Thetford.
The life size bronze statue of Captain George Mainwaring, between the Bell and Anchor hotels, was debuted by series writer David Croft on Saturday.

Former cast members including Bill Pertwee (Warden Hodges) and Pamella Cundell (Mrs Fox) also sat next to the statue, which was created by Sean Hedges-Quinn.

It is the product of a £20,000 fund-raising campaign by the Friend's of Dad's Army to commemorate the series, which was filmed in the town.

Other highlights on the day included appearances by RAF Honington Band, a parade with re-enactors, Dad's Army and military vehicles as well as 1940s music and dancing.

Throughout the week, there were performances of a play depicting two of the series' most famous episodes.

Event organiser Corrine Fulford said: "We welcomed numerous fans but lots of other people as well. There was a real buzz around the statue and a real community vibe. Thanks to everyone who gave their time as well as those who donated money for the statue."
