A143: Woman, 44, dies after accident

Police are appealing for information after two accidents in two days, one of which was fatal, on a stretch of road.
44-year-old Jane Gatt, from the Haverhill area, died after the blue Citreon Saxo she was driving was involved in an accident with a blue Porsche on the A143 at Great Thurlow on Bank Holiday Monday.

Three other people remain in a critical condition following the incident, at around 11am. Two of them were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge, while another has been taken to Papworth Hospital.

Firefighters had to use cutting equipment to free three of the injured people while another was on the road. The air ambulance was also called to the scene.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or may have any further information to contact Pc Nick Spencer at the Bury Roads Policing Unit on 01473 613500.

The previous evening, at 8.10pm, a red Ford Ka and a silver Subaru Impreza were involved in a collision at the Stradishall crossroads.

The Ka overturned into a ditch and the driver was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds, suffering from shoulder injuries.
