£50,000 cash boost for skater project

A GROUP of skaters are celebrating this week after scooping £50,000 in funding from the Big Lottery.

Bury Skatepark Experience, the committee behind the skatepark in Olding Road, Bury St Edmunds, has been successful in its bid for £49,999 from the Big Lottery’s Changing Spaces programme.

The money will be used to make improvements to the popular skatepark, which was first build more than 10 years ago.

The money will go towards a new BMX pump track, and will pay for new lights, benches, bins and planting at the site.

Jay Mills, treasurer of Bury Skatepark Experience, said: “We are all very pleased to have been awarded the funding for the Bury St Edmunds BMX pump track, this has come as a direct result of hard work put in by our skatepark committee who have pushed this project forward.

The funding application was supported by St Edmundsbury Borough Council, and Cllr Robert Everitt, portfolio holder for community, praised the committee for its hard work.
