Football: We are going to win the cup – Needham
Needham Market FC have secured a spot in their second cup final of the season – and are confident they can make it a treble.
The Reds added the Suffolk Premier Cup to their list of success this season after defeating Kirkley & Pakefield 3-2 in extra time at Leiston on Wednesday.
A week earlier, the Bloomfields-based side had won a League Cup final and now have their sights set on adding an FA Vase final place at Wembley.
However, before they contemplate the treble, Needham team manager Danny Laws wants six Ridgeons League points from his side's two home games this week, against Swaffham tomorrow (ko 3pm) and when Woodbridge Town are the visitors on Tuesday (ko 7.45pm.
"The fixtures are building up, but we have to face up to that and will not be making any excuses," said Laws.
"The club is geared up for promotion and that remains a priority," he added.
Needham had to fight back to earn their final spot in midweek, with susbstitute striker Glenn Snell making it 2-1 before a spectacular shot from Danny Thrower put the game into extra-time. An own goal decided the tie.
Missing from the midweek cup action was Needham's leading goalscorer Craig Parker, who is undergoing intensive treatment from club physio Pat Alexander following a knee injury sustained during Needham's 1-1 draw against Kirkley & Pakefield on Saturday.
"Craig is a key player for us and the physio is working around the clock with him and several other players to make sure they are fit for the challenge ahead of us," said Laws.
In a bid to ease the pressure on his squad, Laws has signed a new player this week.
Striker Mark Heath-Preston has moved from King's Lynn Reserves and will be included in the line-up tomorrow (Saturday 13).
"This is a significant signing for us and I want to thank all those at King's Lynn who have released him from his contract to join us," said Laws.
