Club welcomes expert crop

More than 200 people poured into Mildenhall Social Club on Tuesday to witness the recording of BBC Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time.
Celebrities of the horticultural world Bob Flowerdew, Bunny Guinness and Matthew Biggs were on hand throughout the evening to answer gardening-related queries.

The panellists tour gardening clubs around the country, but this was the first time the whole group, along with presenter Peter Gibbs, had ventured into Mildenhall.

The event was hosted by the Barton Mills and District Gardening Club, which had approached the BBC about the visit.

Glenda Berrett, a club committee member, said: "We're very, very chuffed to see them here. We applied many months ago for them to come here and we've been looking forward to it. It's quite something for a young club like ours."

The club, which has been running for four years, had already hosted a talk by Mr Flowerdew in November, when he attended one of its meetings as a guest speaker.

This time, the club's members had the chance to direct the discussion by submitting their own gardening questions to the green-fingered experts.

Although the producers pre-select the questions which will be asked, the panel have no idea what they will be answering until the recording takes place.
