THE Theatre Royal, in Bury St Edmunds, continues its grand tradition of family panto this year with a twist on fairytale favourite Dick Whittington and His Cat.
The well known tale focuses on young Dick Whittington as he arrives in London to make his fame and fortune but evil forces are at play.
To celebrate, the theatre is giving one lucky person the chance to have their own artwork, inspired by the show’s story, on the cover of the panto programme, which is seen by more than 20,000 people.
Entrants are encouraged to be as creative as they want by producing their own front cover on an A4 sheet of paper or card using paint, pencils, crayons, tissue paper, wrapping paper, fabric or even glitter.
The first prize also includes tickets to the show, a photograph with the cast and a signed programme.
An overall winner will be chosen from the best entry in three age groups – under eight, eight-12 and 13 plus.
Two runners-up will also have their entries printed on inside pages of the programme.
The best entries will be displayed around the theatre during the panto’s run.
They should be sent to: Pantomime Poster Competition, Theatre Royal, Westgate Street, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 1QR or taken to the box office.
The closing date is Monday October 31 and people are reminded to include their name, age and contact phone number.
Dick Whittington and His Cat opens on Friday, November 25, and runs until Sunday, January 15.
