Welcome to the house of fun in new show
Suffolk Young People's Theatre is rehearsing Our House, a play by Tim Firth. FL;
YOUNG performers from a popular theatre group are ready to welcome audiences to a ‘house of fun’ with their latest musical production.
The Suffolk Young People’s Theatre will stage romantic comedy Our House – based on the music of pop band Madness – next week in Bury St Edmunds.
The show features a cast of 30 young people and shines the spotlight on the teenage plight of growing up.
It is the 34th show from the group, which is a summer school free to all young people taking part.
They have been rehearsing for the past two weeks at King Edward VI School.
Production manager Daphne Dyer said: “We wanted to do something this year that we felt the young people would really enjoy, something that’s about young people growing up.”
The story focuses on the night of a young Joe’s 16th birthday when he commits a petty crime to impress the girl he loves.
Our House follows the two courses his life would have taken had he stayed to face the music or made a run for it.
The show runs from Tuesday until Saturday (August 4)at 7.30pm at the Theatre Royal.
There will also be a 2.30pm performance on the Saturday.
