Walkway thrill huge crowds

SUFFOLK rockers Walkway have just performed their biggest ever gig - supporting the Darkness and Black Stone Cherry in front of a crowd of more than 6,000 people.

The band, made up of singer and guitarist Chris Ready, 20, his brother lead guitarist James Ready, 19, bass player Alex Botesdale, 21, all from Redgrave, and drummer Andy Burlace, 26, from Felixstowe, played at Thetford Forest on July 14.

The performance comes just a month after playing in front of crowds of more than 3,000 at the Rhodes Rock Festival in Greece.

James said the most important part of what the band do is playing live.

He said: “The Thetford gig was absolutely amazing - it was probably the biggest gig we have had.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better reaction from the crowd, from our first song they were all up for it.

“After the show we got to the Darkness’ after party.

“We talked to the band and the guys from Black Stone Cherry and they said they liked our stuff.

“It was a hell of an experience.

“We play in the region of 140 to 150 shows a year so we are used to playing live now.

“Even though it was a very special gig for us, we coped with it really well.

“We wouldn’t be half as good if we didn’t gig so much.

“No disrespect to bands that don’t gig but I think you can tell when they don’t. It helps not just to keep the band and the music tight but helps with the performance as a whole and how confident you are on stage.”

The band are next heading to the Monkey Puzzle House studio in Woolpit next month to record an album.

James said: “We are hoping to record ten or eleven tracks for the album and then will try to get it all over iTunes.

“We are going to keep playing as many gigs as possible and hopefully we will get spotted and get our big break.”
