The National Stud, Newmarket
The National Stud at Newmarket is the showcase for British thoroughbred breeding.
Five hundred acres of prime pastureland on the edge of Newmarket, the UK's racing headquarters, is home to stallions, mares and foals.
Individuals, small groups and larger parties have the chance to see behind the scenes on organised tours of the stud which gives an insight into the racing industry.
Visitors can see the stallions, foaling unit and nursery yard before watching the mares and foals in their paddocks.
Children will be pleased to meet the resident Shetland ponies on the tour.
Wavertree's Coffee and Gift Shop offers the perfect place for refreshments and to pick up a souvenir of your visit to the National Stud.
Tours: These start daily at 11.15am and 2pm and last approximately 75 minutes.
Admission: 6.50 for adults and 5 for concessions and children. A family ticket costs 20.

Getting there: The National Stud is two miles south west of Newmarket, next door to the July Racecourse (same exit from Racehorse Statue Roundabout as July Racecourse) and at the junction of the A1303 (A14) and A1304 (A11).
