Songwriting competition gets under way
Simon Lucas-Hughes was the winner of last year's Bury Songwriters competition
THE hunt for Bury’s best songsmith begins on February 8 with the launch of this year’s Bury Songwriters Competition.
The event, in its fifth year, aims to give exposure to new musical talent in the area.
This year’s prize package is worth around £1,000, including the production of a three-track EP, a brand new Nineboys guitar worth £400 and £100 of vouchers for music shop Sounds Plus.
The EP will be recorded, mastered and distributed for digital download on behalf of the winner. Previous winners have included Simon Lucas-Hughes and Jon Hart - Brit nominee Ed Sheeran has also featured in the competition’s showcase.
After four heats, the final will be held on May 18 at the Unitarian Chapel, in Bury St Edmunds, making up part of the Bury Festival roster.
Contestants will get to play two songs on the night, a warm up track and the song they would like judged.
Event organiser Neil Rayson, from Peacefrog Promotions, said: “It is open to all ages and all abilities – it is the song that counts.”
To enter, visit www.burysongwriterscompetition.co.uk or by emailing details to peacefrogpromotions@googlemail.com Heat dates will be announced later.
