Regal celebrates 75 years with 5p cinema tickets
A POPULAR independent cinema and theatre is celebrating its 75th birthday by taking a step back in time.
The Regal Theatre, in Stowmarket, will be celebrating a landmark anniversary with special cinema screenings with prices set at 1936 rates.
Customers can enjoy one of three films for only 5p per person – the price charged for a superior ticket in 1936, the year the Regal was built. And in a fitting tribute, The King’s Speech, set in 1936, will be one of the featured films.
There will be 2,200 tickets up for grabs and David Marsh, Regal manager, is expecting them to go quickly.
“We did something similar when we re-opened after the fire in March 2010 and we had people literally queuing around the block,” he said.
Tickets go on sale from June 5 and will only be available from the Regal box office, in Ipswich Street.
This celebration will also be used to mark a hugely successful year for the venue, which saw a record-breaking 42,000 people through the doors in 2010/2011.
Mr Marsh said: “It’s a thank you to the people of Stowmarket for their support.”
There will be 11 screenings between July 1 and July 7.
Smash-hit, The King’s Speech starring Colin Firth, Liam Neeson thriller Unknown, and family friendly A Turtle’s Tale will be the featured films.
