Oh yes they did go to theatre’s panto
MORE than 23,000 turned again to boo the villains and cheer the heroes at this year’s Theatre Royal pantomime.
The theatre added a week to the beginning of the run of Dick Wittington and His Cat, which closed on January 15.
The Theatre Royal’s artistic director Colin Blumenau said: “Despite the recession we’ve hit record numbers and we are absolutely thrilled.
“It seems pantomime is a necessary luxury. People like to go at Christmas, it’s one of the traditional joys that people are loath to give up.”
He thanked the panto’s sponsors, Premier Printers, whose director Spencer Robinson said: “Even at a period of economic uncertainty, it seems people will always find the means to enjoy traditional passtimes.”
