New style of fitness centre opens in town

New Gym opens in Etna Road - Cross Fit, opened by the mayor of St Edmundsbury, Cllr Tim Marks with gym owner Richard Peck.

A new CrossFit gym in Etna Road, Bury St Edmunds, officially opened its doors at the weekend.

The gym has been pioneered by Richard Peck, a qualified personal trainer who has been involved in fitness his entire life.

“I was introduced to CrossFit by a friend and it has the best training style I have ever encountered. When I went along to their centre in Nottingham, they urged me to open my own gym,” said Mr Peck, who was placed sixth in the Reebok Crossfit Fitness championships.

CrossFit, which has grown across Europe since becoming popular in America, provides workouts that focus on functional movements and uses free weight equipment rather than resistance machines.

“I think Cross Fit is for anyone who is serious about fitness and health or losing weight while also having fun,” Mr Peck added.

“It is always intensive, but fully scaleable to suit everyone’s needs.”
