Fri 8 Feb WALTER SMITH III QUARTET (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £18. Bookings: 01787 211865) US-born tenor saxophonist with an increasing reputation for thoughtful, creative playing and whose last album went into the top 10 on iTunes. Currently signed to Concord Records, his band features Matthew Stevens (guitar), Michael Janisch (bass) and Jamire Williams (drums).
Sat 9 Feb JIM MULLEN (Hadleigh Town Hall, 8pm, £12. Bookings 07941 360890)
The great Godfather of groove guitar appears with Chris Ingham (piano), Mick Hutton (bass) and George Double (drums). Expect searing blues, melting ballads and burning bossas along with his famous swinging take on Earth Wind and Fire’s ‘After The Love Has Gone’.

Jazz and blues classics, with Chris Newman (guitar/vocals), Myke Clifford (sax/flute/vocals) and Sue Szymanski (percussion). ANDY BOWIE (Clarendon Arms, Cambridge, 8.30, free) Tenor saxophone-playing philosophy professor and the Pete Shepherd Trio present a connoisseur’s choice from the modern jazz repertoire.

Tues 12 Feb TOMMASO STARACE QUARTET (Oaklands Hotel, Norwich, 8.30, £10. Info: firstname.lastname@example.org) The new Norwich venue for Brian McAlister’s jazz club welcomes the irrepressible Italian alto saxophone star, bursting with Cannonball Adderley-style effervescence and featuring an all-star lineup of Ross Stanley (keyboards), Damon Brown (trumpet) and Chris Nicholls (drums).

BBC Radio big band alto saxophonist Clive Hitchcock presents an evening of ‘Electric Standards’, in an Eric Marienthal style. With Dan Friend (trumpet), Simon Brown (keyboards), Charles Landymore (electric bass) and Roger O’Dell (drums).
Thur 14 Feb SOLE BAY JAZZ BAND (Maltings Pavilion, Ditchingham, 8pm, free) Residency for established and popular Dixieland band, featuring Ray Simmons (trumpet), Tim Densham (clarinet/sax), Ron Hockett (clarinet/saxophone), Alan Cugnoni (banjo/guitar), Tony Jullings (bass) and Craig Hipperson (drums).
Fri 15 Feb EMILIA MARTENSSON (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £17. Bookings: 01787 211865) Sensitive, affecting young singer who is garnering much media praise for her ethereal, bewitching style heard on her album And So It Goes with Barry Greene (piano), a winning blend of mysterious originals and smart covers by Jacques Brel and James Taylor. Also featuring Julian Siegel (sax), Ben Davis (cello) and John Blease (drums).
