A work-based learning assessor and a broadband manager from Elmswell have won a rally across Europe with their team mate.

David Fennell, 30, Darren Jenkinson, 30 and Alex Baker, 29, took part in The Crumball Rally’s ‘Mission Impossible’ from July 20 to 22.

The team are “good mates” and old school friends, with Mr Fennell saying: “Last year we came third, so we wanted to win this year.”

A theme was needed, and so because of the race’s name, the team wanted to include gadgets and weapons.

They called the car the Green Hornet, with Mr Fennell admitting that it was “eye-catching”.

Green Hornet, a ‘94 M reg BMW, was named after the superhero of the same name.

Although the team won, they did get into difficulty.

Mr Fennell said: “When we were coming into Germany we got taken to the police compound and got searched.

“They were checking for firearms and drugs, it was very lengthy.

“Apart from that it all went well.”
