Forest is plugged in for light show
VISITORS to Thetford Forest have been seeing it in a whole new light this week.
The Electric Forest attraction at High Lodge opened at the weekend with lights and interactive installations taking the place of night time wildlife until December 18 (Thursdays to Sundays).
“It’s part romp in the woods and part visual art,” said Phil Supple, creative director of Culture Creative, which has worked with the Forestry Commission to bring the event to Thetford.
Play areas are lit up, individual and groves of trees illuminated plus there’s a 250-metre path – Electric Avenue – through Corsican pines which has lights, sound and other affects that are triggered as visitors walk along it.
Mr Supple said there were more than 500 lights and 20km of cable used in The Electric Forest and it took a team of 10 people about six and a half days to set it up.
It has come to Thetford from Cragside, in Northumberland, and prior to that it was at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, in Kent.
Although the equipment used in each place is the same, Mr Supple said the layout for each location was unique.
The 1.2km trail is open from 5-9pm and costs £15.50 for adults and £10 for children.
