Exhibition honours sporting heroes

AN EXHIBITION dedicated to Olympian athletes past and present is this month honouring Olympic discus thrower Bill Tancred.

The Lap of Honour exhibition at Moyse’s Hall Museum has been on display since last summer and features a wide range of items which have Olympic connections.

Official blazers, interviews and photographs of participants, official track suits and badges have been on show.

This month, part of the display features Bill Tancred, who competed in 1968 in Mexico and in 1972 in Munich.

He also took part in the Commonwealth Games in 1966 and 1970 and between 1964 and 1975 was a regular medal winner in the British National Championships for discus.

Bill was also a national coach in the 80s and 90s and in 1992 was awarded the MBE for his service to athletics.

He has donated his Olympic vest, a tankard from Ipwich and memorabilia from Mexico to the Bury St Edmunds exhibition.

Among the items which have been put on show are an unusual display of trainers donated by Daniel King, 2012 hopeful and race walker.
