Eight join board set up to run county libraries

THE full board of the new Suffolk libraries social enterprise has been chosen.
At the same time, the community group behind Thurston Library is seeking public views.
The interim board set up to run Suffolk’s library service in partnership with local library groups has three more members than originally proposed because of the number and quality of applicants.
The founding members, chairman Clive Fox, Mike Hosking and Shona Bendix are joined by eight more.
Charlotte Clark and Marion Harvey are staff nominations. Charlotte is from Southwold Library with 17 years’ library experience. Marion is from Ipswich County Library, with 41 years’ experience.
Ryan Jay, from Voices 4 Gainsborough Community Library, is the youngest member at 18 but through running a youth club, brings experience of securing funding, running events and fund-raising.
Sylvia Knights, from Bungay Library Working Group, has experience in senior management in IT.
Colin Owens, from Wickham Market Library Partnership, has experience of project and financial management, business planning and building community links.
Michael Readman, from Stradbroke Parish Council and the Eye, Debenham and Stradbroke library pilot group, spent 35 years in the financial services industry.
Robert Spivey, from Sudbury Town Council, has held senior financial positions in private and public sector organisations.
Graham Watson is director of the Seckford Foundation and was deputy chief executive of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts.
Thurston Library Working Group is one of the pilot projects for community library groups and is having an open meeting at the New Green Centre on Tuesday February 21 at 7.30pm.
Group chairman Richard Fawcett said: “We’ve got some ideas to put forward and want to hear people say what Ideas they’ve got. We want to get a sense of priority from them.
“You need engagement with people rather than thinking your own ideas are the right ideas.”
He said they want to know what is important to library users and for those who do not currently use it to say what they would like to see there.
