Champagne flowed in Lavenham on Friday as guests at The Swan Hotel enjoyed an evening of champagne tasting along with complementary fine food.

This was the first of several evenings the hotel is hoping to run where specialist wine and food team up to offer a special night for guests.

The Moet & Chandon evening also included the opportunity to stay in one of the hotels beautiful timbered bedrooms at a special bed and breakfast rate.

Mark Thompson, Moet Hennessy regional account manager, gave guests fascinating and informative snippets about the creation of the world’s most romantic and celebratory drink as food was served. Head chef Justin Kett added to the luxurious dining by creating a superb four course gourmet dinner to partner the champagne which included the Vintage 2002 Brut and Vintage 2002 Rosé.

Champagne facts: Champagne is created by blending Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes; The chalky soil of the Champagne region creates its special taste; some vintage champagne is best served in wider glasses rather than the flute and the vintage also improves if served from a magnum;

Claude Moet founded his champagne house in Epernay in 1743 and Moet & Chandon champagne is now produced from 771 hectares of vineyard.
