Bands: Debut gig at Apex for Monet

Teenage four-piece Monet are playing their debut gig at the Apex tonight after launching the band just last month.

Singer and guitarists Ben Cavanagh, 17, from Ixworth and Lew Parker, 18, from Felsham, bass player and vocalist Sam Patterson, 17, from Elmswell, and drummer Joe Levett, 18, from Stowmarket, launched their band through Facebook and Twitter on January 30.

The band formed after Ben and Lew’s previous group, Protect the Target, split as band members left to go to university.

Lew is currently doing his A-levels at Thurston Community College and the other band members are all doing music courses at West Suffolk College.

Ben said: “With our first band we were playing together for about two years.

“There was a bit of an age gap between some of us so some of the group had to leave to go to university.

“We wanted to start something new so recruited our best mates to play with us.”

Monet’s debut five track EP, The Chase, is due to be released on March 5.

Ben said: “We recorded the EP at Earth Terminal in Hampshire just before Christmas.

“When we were in the studio we were just putting finishing touches on songs - we had written most of them in September when we formed, originally just on acoustic guitar.

“The Apex gig will be our first show playing as Monet - we are really excited about it.

“I would describe our music as mainstream rock with a pop sound.

“I haven’t got a very gravelly voice that you need for heavier rock music but I think that gives us a special and unique sound.

“On stage we will be very energetic and put on a great show not only to hear but to see as well.

“We should be entertaining for both the eyes and the ears.
