Band Spotlight: This Is Colour

It may have taken a year-and-a-half, but a progressive metal band are finally putting the finishing touches to their first major album.

This Is Colour first got together three years ago through connections with West Suffolk College, in Bury St Edmunds.

But it took them a while to find their sound as each of the five members brought a new influence to their metal music, with everything from old classics to modern rock – two of the band members have even been caught listening to Leona Lewis.

Their sound has since developed further and recording on their new album started in June.

Vocalist Dean Ceconi, 22, from Bury, said: "People will be able to tell from the new album that it is mainly metal but it's got progressive parts in it, too, such as jazz, blues and tech. We are trying to throw every aspect in and trying to cater for absolutely everybody in some kind of way.

"We are trying to be totally original, but at the same time be what people want to listen to – just taking it to another level."

The vocals in the band's new tracks are aimed at being something everyone can relate to.

Other band members are guitarist Keir Atkinson, 21, from Bury, guitarist Tom Cronin, 20, from Newmarket, bassist Jon McGinn, 21, from Brandon, and drummer Nick Cheshire, 21, from Sudbury.

After a two-and-a-half week tour in August, last year, This Is Colour are used to the differents crowds up north and in London and are preparing for more tours in 2009.

The band have planned a short tour at the end of January to launch the album and a second tour with American bands Liferuinner and Ligeria.

While on the road, they will also be promoting Bury in an attempt to get gig nights thriving once more.

Keir said: "Tours are generally just good times all around really, as there's never a dull moment.

"It's taken a long time to get the album finished, but once we have put on the finishing touches, we will spend the next month promoting it."

The album is due to be released on January 28 through the record label 30 Days of Night Records. To find out more, visit
