Band Spotlight: This Boy Wonders
If Boxford-based This Boy Wonders have their way, we will be hearing plenty from them in the future.
The project began as 24-year-old singer-songwriter Chris Athorne, pictured,of Boxford, but grew into a full band after he began searching for other musicians to help perform his songs.
And it wasn't long before he found drummer Mark Willis, guitarist Lee Wilkins and bass player Rob Lait.
"For the past year I've been writing songs and it's now got to the point where we're really finding our sound," he said.
"We were runners up in the LoveMusic24 Battle of the Bands contest, and that seems to have worked in our favour and sparked off more interest in us.
"At the end of this month we have a live session with BBC Introducing, and now we're just trying to get out as much as we can.
"Things seem to be going in the right direction – it's quite exciting, but it's all so foreign to me to have people interested in us, as until recently I never considered myself a performer."
The band, who describe their sound as indie folk rock, have a range of influences including Jack Johnson – who Chris credits with inspiring him to learn to play guitar – The Black Keys and Bon Iver, as well as guitar heroes Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix.
And while they prepare for their upcoming radio session, the group also plan to record a new EP this month.
"To be honest, we're just a bunch of mates that get on really well," said Chris. "We're having a great time and we're just trying to see where we can go with it.
"It just seems that all the comments that come our way are really positive, and that really helps push us. It's all I want to do now."
