Band Spotlight: Thee Vicars

A national award-winning band are making the most of their experience after playing a string of non-stop gigs.

Thee Vicars, from Bury St Edmunds, shot to fame earlier this year when they were named Best Punk Act at the UK Indy Music Awards.

They were presented their award by the Buzzcocks and then went on to wow the crowd with a performance that got top marks from everybody watching.

The four lads have remained on a high ever since as they were signed by the record label Dirty Water – they have released their first single and played to one of their biggest crowds at the Primitive Festival, in Rotterdam.

Bassist and vocalist Mike Whittaker, 18, said: "We have just kept going and just getting our name out there.

"It's been tiring and the hangovers have been pretty awful, but we are all enjoying it and that's the main thing."

Thee Vicars new single, Don't Try To Tell Me, is described as fuzzy, garage punk and has already received great feedback.

They are planning to release a 12-inch LP through their record label in September, which will contain around seven of their top new tracks.

Or, if you prefer to listen to their older tracks, they have compiled a CD with 13 of their classics, which can be bought off their website.

Guitarist and vocalist Reuben Kemp, 16, said: "We've been gigging mainly in London and we are beginning to see more and more familiar faces at our gigs.

"I think we are just making the most of it. It's quite a good opportunity for other bands in Bury to realise you can do something even if you are from a small town."

Other band members are guitarist Marcus Volkert, 16, and drummer Jasper Kemp, 17.
