Band Spotlight: The Greyhound music nights

Music fans will soon have a new date for their diary with the launch of a new acoustic night in Botesdale.

Chris Burnard, landlord of The Greyhound pub, is full of enthusiasm for his weekly live music event, which is due to start in February and will feature guitar-based solo artists and duos.

With the help of pub regular and former Manfred Mann member Denny Newman, Chris has been putting together a line-up of evenings that will include father-and-son duo The Harvs and Essex-based singer Chris Last.

He said the idea had come about after the pub began hosting a monthly busker's night, which has offered a stage for a range of musicians to showcase their talents to an appreciative audience.

"We've had a successful busker's night that's been running on the last Thursday of every month, with some very good performers, and we had such good feedback we wanted to do a weekly event as well," he said.

"We're looking for people who can knock out a raw tune. It's not just background music – the crowds that come to the busker's nights will always cheer and clap and any act that plays gets really good support from the audience.

"I'm a great live music fan so I'm really excited about it and really looking forward to seeing it get started.

"We've definitely got some good people coming up who will pull a good crowd in."

Among the acts scheduled to appear over the first few weeks are Andre de Moller, who Chris described as 'an extremely accomplished blues player', as well as sibling songwriters Sam and Daisy, and Norfolk-based Bob Cushion.

Meanwhile, Chris is hoping to book plenty more acts who can play original material, with anyone interested in performing asked to contact the pub on 01379 688052.

The first night is due to be held on February 12, with weekly events running every Friday from 8-11pm, free of charge.
