Band Spotlight: Ten City Nation
A rock and roll band are trying to tackle racism through the launch of a compilation album.
Ten City Nation released their own album in June this year and have had thousands of people download it for free off their website and received some great feedback, according to vocalist Seymour Patrick, from Bury St Edmunds.
The group have written so much material, they are now planning to record another album in the autumn.
The members of Ten City Nation – Seymour, plus drummer Neil Baldwin, from Bury, and bassist Mike Smith, from Bury – formed in January 2007 and were all original members of the popular Miss Black America.
Seymour said: "The album has been going really well and the main thing was for as many people to hear it as possible."
Their latest project has been to join together with an anti-racism campaign, Love Music Hate Racism, and they have donated a track to an album featuring 23 artists.
The campaign was thought up by Richard Rose, from R*E*P*E*A*T Records, with help from Seymour in response to 70,000 Londoners voting for the British National Party in the London Mayoral elections.
The album, Keep Britain Tidy – A Public Service Announcement With Guitars, is set to be released on August 18 through the R*E*P*E*A*T website www.repeatfanzine.co.uk
"We asked a number of bands if they wanted to be involved and every single one of them said yes," said Seymour.
"It's mostly an awareness-raising campaign as we are not kidding ourselves that we are going to stop racism overnight, but if it makes one person change their vote then we have done our job."
Ten City Nation have also decided to concentrate on playing gigs closer to home as they enjoy them more and are able to play with bands they really rate, including Thee Vicars, Kunk and Nabraska.
At the moment they are in the middle of a five day run of gigs which started at The Gaff, in Bury, on Wednesday.
On Friday (August 15), Ten City Nation will be playing at the Man on the Moon, in Cambridge, Saturday at the Queen Charlotte, in Norwich, and on Sunday they will be at the Steamboat, in Ipswich.
