Band Spotlight: Solstice

A Haverhill band are set to release their new EP – but only if there is enough demand over the internet.

Solstice formed in July last year, but they have already produced their first EP and are getting ready to release a second.

The alternative indie band is made up of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Lee Hull, 20, lead guitarist and keyboard player Callum Hull, 16, bassist Anthony Andrews, 20, and drummer and keyboard player Steven Marsh, 16.

Named after the summer solstice, Lee said the band formed after he scouted Steven out at a school performance and was hooked when he first saw the rest of them play.

Lee said: "We haven't been together that long, but we have been working twice as hard and it feels like we have been together forever – we are one big family.

"To be honest, we just want to gig all over the place and go mental, meeting people and having a laugh."

Solstice is quickly conquering the region, having already played in Cambridge, Haverhill, Norwich and Bury St Edmunds, with thanks to help from their manager Andrew Pugh, friends and family.

Lee said one of their most memorable gigs was at the Athenaeum, in Bury, when two children watched the gig with their parents and shouted up to them on stage.

Brothers Lee and Callum even get visits from their great-grandmother, who goes to watch them play.

Fans can currently listen to their new tracks via their websites but they will release them as an EP if there is a good demand.

Since they launched their Myspace website, they have already had more than 3,000 plays and 64 hits on the first day they uploaded their newest tracks.

Catch the band play at the Haverhill Rock Competition on February 9, or to find out more, visit www.solstice-music.co.uk or www.myspace.com/solsticehaverhill
