Band spotlight: Not Until Tomorrow

Heavy metal band Not Until Tomorrow have been celebrating this week after making it through to the final of BurySOUND.

The five-piece played in the first heat of the Bury St Edmunds battle of the bands on October 23, impressing the crowd enough to get through to the next round by winning the audience vote.

"It was really great. We were first on, so it was quite difficult at first but once we got into it it was fine," said bassist Sam Patterson.

"We just went crazy when we found out we'd got through, as we didn't think we would do it."

The group have only been playing together for a year, but according to Sam, it took a few months for the group to settle down and define their sound.

"It took a while to sort our line-up out and we kept switching things around, but since January we've stuck with heavy metal," he said.

"We've all been in bands before but this has been our most successful. We've all been in situations where we didn't really like the music we were playing, and now we really have ourselves sorted."

Influenced by bands like Unit Six, Bring the Horizon and Paramore, the group have recently finished their first demo tracks for their MySpace page, which also helped secure them their place in this year's BurySOUND, at the Corn Exchange, Bury St Edmunds.

The five - made of up of Sam along with drummer Alex Grotier, guitarists Henry Bullock and Ben Turner, and singer Adam Dinsmore – have already had the chance to prove themselves live with shows at the Abbey Gardens, in Bury, and at Stowmarket's StowFest, and are now eagerly looking forward to the competition final on November 20.

"Gigging used to be daunting but now that we're getting used to it, it's really fun," he said.

"We just love playing in front of people and writing music. Recording is fun but it's a lot better being up on stage."
