Band Spotlight: Long Bone Trio

A single release has proved a success for three rockers.

Members of Long Bone Trio originally met in the 1980s when their two bands played together at a number of gigs in Haverhill - Final Scream and 13th Chime.

Guitarist and vocalist Gary O'Connor, 45, from Wicken, continued playing with 13th Chime during the early 1980s and the band has since had a revival in America.

The band 13th Chime, who are known as one of the first goth rock bands, have been approached by a small record label abroad to release two albums of their old tracks. Gary has also sold various memorabilia to people who live across the USA.

Guitarist Robin Taylor, 44, from Newmarket, and drummer David Middle, 44, from Balsham, both played for Final Scream before going their separate ways in The Fire Department, in Brighton, and Giant Teen, in London.

Around two years ago, the three finally regrouped as Long Bone Trio with a plan to create a primitive and infectious strain of rock and roll.

Gary said: "All of us have been in and out of bands all our lives but we all sort of ended up back in this area and we are all very much from the punk era.

"The lyrics are very dark and twisted and it is slightly surreal. Also musically, there is still an element of punk there. Over the last couple of years we have kind of developed our own thing."

Lone Bone Trio are hoping to perform more gigs in London and Bury St Edmunds but for the moment are concentrating on releasing a new album.

The album will contain 12 tracks along with the single they released on 7-inch vinyl in January - Oscar Flies in the Face of Reason - which can be bought off their myspace website.
