Karin Glanzer takes on MicroMillions
Advertorial Feature
The poker world has been dominated by women this year, an unusual occurrence as they make up such a small percentage of players. At WSOP we saw team Pro Vanessa Selbst storm the leader boards and secure a gold bracelet. And the girl power pattern re-emerged at last week’s MicroMillions tournament series.
The MicroMillions tournaments are a major online tournament series, hosted by PokerStars, with small buy-in fees but huge potential a prizepool. The events see 100 games played over a ten day period with millions of dollars to be won. Our female women may have only parted with petty cash to play, but the winning percentages and earnings were macro. MicroMillions hosted an estimated 300,000 players and two women finished in the top ten on the overall leaderboard (DragOnflye and in__driuxe). Women took home two championships and eleven women cashed in the top 200.
What’s the secret to this female force? PokerStars caught up with Karin Glanzer who admitted she relies heavily on coffee and Red Bull. Music and five minute showers also help her to maintain focus during the tiny tournaments; thought she only has a turnaround of around an hour in between each one. She explained: "If you sit for hours at a time, it's important to move around . . . so you can come back swinging." Karin says she only slept for two to three hours at a time during the series and played almost all the events up to the badugi tournaments.
Karin, from Australia, cashed in two events of the World Series of Poker back in 2011 and decided, to keep up her skill level she should also play online. She was excited to play in the MicroMillions tournaments because of the "big fields, the small buy-ins, and the prize pools."
During the series, she played 22 tournaments. Her dream is to play against female Poker Pro Vanessa Selbst, but in the mean time, the female players should stick together; a force to be reckoned with amongst the dominant male players.
